Organizational Equity: OUR Commitment to Community
This work can only be done collaboratively, therefore, hereinafter, our collective voice will be honored as “WE.”
As an organization:
WE acknowledge those who came before us and who paved the road without acknowledgement of their labor, Black women and femmes, and Indigenous women and femmes
WE center tenants of Critical Race Theory, Black Feminist Thought, Queer Theory and Indigenous Critical Theory
WE seek to create a space of acknowledgement of all bodies
WE strive to provide access for all bodies
WE strive to acknowledge one’s body/one’s being when we refer to the individual
WE strive to acknowledge and honor boundaries of one’s body
WE strive to create a dynamic space for the unique experiences of all bodies
WE center the most marginalized bodies
WE strive to engage in accountability processes that center positionality
WE acknowledge class as variables of an intersectional body
WE situate the work of racial justice and racial equity explicitly/primarily in BIPOC communities as a whole
WE acknowledge that different people have different experiences of their body, including different types of oppression
WE collaborate with Black, Indigenous, communities of color (BIPoC communities)
WE serve BIPoC and low-income communities across Oregon
WE provide training and consultation to provide skills - emphasis on personal and professional development - around educational equity centered in racial and intersectional social justice
WE believe that youth are political agents and strive for youth empowerment
WE serve historically marginalized and minoritized youth in communities across Oregon through educational programming and capacity building initiatives
WE engage in programming that builds capacity around educational equity and implements equity focused educational programming at K12 schools, institutions of higher ed and educational nonprofits
WE approach racial equity work with intention, care and empathy, with attention to impact
WE encourage the development and creation of diverse curriculum programs, policies and structures that promote access to fair and just educational opportunities for all people
WE question, critique and reimagine the ways in which knowledge has historically been defined
WE acknowledge that we work within a tradition of theory and praxis
WE acknowledge that leadership that strives for justice is accountable, and that considered feedback is care
